Tate McRae gave fans even more reasons to believe a new chapter is on the way during her headlining performance at Osheaga 2026. Taking over Montreal’s Bell River Stage on Saturday, August 1, the Canadian superstar introduced striking new visuals that immediately fueled speculation about her next musical era.
Fresh off days of cryptic social media posts, McRae’s festival production featured previously unseen graphics that departed from the visual identity of her So Close to What and Miss Possessive eras. Fans quickly spotted the changes during performances of “Purple Lace Bra” and especially “exes,” where giant screens displayed flowing gold patterns, ethereal imagery, and artistic body-inspired projections that contrasted with the darker aesthetic of her previous tour.
The updated visuals became an instant talking point across social media, with concert clips spreading rapidly as fans searched for hidden clues. Several attendees pointed to the gold swirling graphics and goddess-like imagery as evidence that Tate McRae is preparing to unveil a completely new creative direction.
The performance arrived just days after Tate McRae posted a minimalist Instagram update reading, “Montreal. Chicago. See u soon,” alongside a polished new photoshoot. While the caption revealed little, fans immediately interpreted the post as the beginning of another album rollout, flooding the comments with theories about new music, a visual rebrand, and surprise announcements tied to her summer festival appearances.
The timing adds further intrigue. Osheaga marked McRae’s festival debut and made her the first Canadian artist to headline the event since The Weeknd in 2017. It also served as one of only a handful of live performances on her 2026 calendar following the conclusion of the Miss Possessive World Tour last November.
Tate McRae has spent the past year riding the success of So Close to What, released on February 21, 2025. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced major hits including “Sports Car,” “Revolving Door,” “2 Hands,” and “It’s OK I’m OK.” Its deluxe edition, SO CLOSE TO WHAT???, followed later that year with additional tracks including the Billboard Hot 100 top-five hit “TIT FOR TAT,” while the accompanying arena tour grossed more than $100 million across more than 80 shows.
With Lollapalooza immediately following and anticipation continuing to build online, fans will be watching closely to see whether the mysterious imagery becomes the first official glimpse of her next album.
