After nearly two years of legal battles and time away from music, Young Thug is officially back. The Atlanta rapper has announced the release of his highly anticipated fourth studio album, UY Scuti, set to drop in May. The project marks his first full-length release since Business Is Business in 2023 and will be the first since his release from jail in late 2024. The album’s title, UY Scuti, references one of the largest known stars in the universe—a name that seems to reflect Young Thug’s ambitions as he returns to the spotlight. While the exact release date is still unknown, here is everything we know so far.

Legal Chapter

The announcement of UY Scuti follows a highly publicized legal chapter in Young Thug’s life. The rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, was released from Fulton County Jail on October 31, 2024, after accepting a non-negotiated plea deal tied to the YSL Records racketeering case. He had been held since May 2022. As part of the plea, Thug pled no contest to charges including conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO Act and leadership of a criminal street gang. Additional charges—ranging from weapons possession to drug violations—were resolved under the same agreement. In exchange, he was sentenced to 40 years, with 5 years credited as time served, 15 years of probation, and a conditional 20-year prison sentence that could be triggered if he violates probation terms.

Just days after his release, Young Thug made his first public comments, thanking supporters and expressing relief. Not long after, photos emerged of him in the studio with Travis Scott, Lil Baby, and Future, signaling that he was ready to return to music.

Signs Leading to UY Scuti

Hints of the new album began circulating earlier this year. On March 25, Young Thug was seen courtside at the Miami Heat vs. Golden State Warriors game holding a custom jersey with the name “UY Scuti.” A day later, Future tweeted the phrase, further building hype. Then came the Instagram follow of an account with the same name, and finally, a cryptic billboard near Coachella in California that read: “UNIVERSE HAS BEEN TOO QUIET. UNTIL NOW. UY SCUTI.” Today, April 16, Young Thug made it official—sharing a pre-order link and confirming the album title and release month.
