Los Angeles–based singer-songwriter Mergui has officially signed with Universal Records / REPUBLIC Collective in partnership with Saban Music Partners and marked the announcement with the release of his new single, “3 Tears.” The track arrives alongside a striking official video and represents his first release under the new deal and the beginning of a new era.
Written by Mergui alongside GRAMMY Award–winner Amy Allen and acclaimed producer Andrew Wells, “3 Tears” blends emotional pop songwriting with modern soul textures. The song unfolds patiently, moving from restrained, introspective verses into a sweeping chorus before closing with a symphonic, cinematic finish. The same emotional arc is mirrored in the accompanying video, directed by Lukas Colombo with cinematography by Shane Hurlbut. Bright, saturated scenes reflect the warmth and intimacy of a relationship’s early moments, before gradually giving way to darker, fractured imagery.
In a press release, Mergui explained that “3 Tears” explores “a relationship where emotional vulnerability and insecurity are used to hold things together out of fear of being alone rather than real love.” He added that the song represents “the moment of clarity when that dynamic isn’t enough anymore, and putting yourself first means moving on.”
“3 Tears” arrives as Mergui continues to emerge as one of pop’s most promising new artists. In 2025, he broke through with “LIVING ROOM,” his collaboration with Maryjo, which generated over 10 million streams and went viral on TikTok. His emotionally charged covers of “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and “Say Something” further expanded his reach. He also secured sync placements with EA Sports FC 26 and The Sims, introducing his music to new audiences.
Mergui’s new single “3 Tears” is now available on all streaming platforms.
