Kanye West (aka Ye) returned to his hometown Thursday night, September 3, for the first of two sold-out YE LIVE IN CHICAGO shows at Soldier Field. The two-hour-plus performance delivered a hometown-heavy set spanning his catalog, Bully material and ¥$ collaborations, with surprise appearances from Twista, Big Sean and Future.
The Chicago homecoming carried particular weight for Ye, who was raised on the city’s South Side after being born in Atlanta. Soldier Field was also the site of his 2021 Donda listening event, where he famously performed inside a replica of his childhood home.

For Night 1, Ye opened with a newly debuted smooth gray full-face mask featuring glowing eyes before launching into a double dose of “Homecoming.” The Graduation favorite was an especially fitting choice for the Chicago crowd, given its portrait of the city as “Windy,” the girl Ye says he met when he was three years old.
The massive half-globe stage that has become a signature element of the Bully tour dominated the production. Ye moved around and even stood atop the structure during “I Wonder.”
The setlist moved freely through Ye’s discography, combining newer material with songs stretching from The College Dropout through Yeezus and Donda.
