Nas and DJ Premier have released the official video for “GiT Ready,” the latest single from their collaborative album Light-Years. Directed by Jean-Charles “JC” Charavin, the visual arrives just weeks after the album’s release.
Shot entirely in New York, the video leans into a sleek, high-concept aesthetic. Architectural lines, glass-heavy interiors, and references to finance and technology shape a world where success is implied rather than performed, reflecting the understated authority both artists have cultivated over time.
The release follows a busy stretch for Nas. Last week, he unveiled Legend Has It… Nas Feature Presentation, a curated project compiling his guest appearances across the Legend Has It series, paired with exclusive commentary that revisits each collaboration in detail.
Among the highlights is his original verse on “Omerta,” taken from Raekwon’s The Emperor’s New Clothes, offering fans a rare archival moment alongside new context from the rapper himself.
Released via Mass Appeal, Light-Years has been framed as a full-circle moment, reconnecting Nas and DJ Premier after years of intermittent collaborations while presenting a cohesive, modern body of work.
The partnership dates back to 1994, when Premier contributed to Illmatic, widely regarded as one of the most important hip-hop albums ever recorded, featuring tracks like “Memory Lane” and “Represent.”
That early chemistry evolved into a string of defining records. Songs such as “I Gave You Power,” “Nas Is Like,” and “N.Y. State Of Mind Pt. II” helped shape the sound of East Coast rap across the late 1990s and early 2000s.
