The Game is opening up about his relationships with Kendrick Lamar and Drake, offering a more personal explanation of where he stands with both artists. Speaking at the listening party for The Documentary III, the Compton rapper reflected on his history with Kendrick while making clear that his loyalty to Drake has remained consistent.
“I showed Kendrick nothing but love, but I can’t get on the phone with him. I put Kendrick in places I wanted to be, places I wish n****s would have put me,” The Game said at the event.
His comments arrive just one day after he pushed back against speculation that he was dissing Kendrick on “No Brakes,” his new collaboration with Drake. After fans began dissecting lyrics on the track for possible subliminal references, The Game responded on Instagram: “Ain’t diss nobody on that song loud fa nuthin ahhhh.”
The clarification has added another layer to the rapper’s complicated history with both Kendrick and Drake. While The Game and Kendrick have shared a connection through their Los Angeles roots and previously collaborated, his long-standing friendship with Drake has also remained a major part of his career.
Reflecting on that relationship at the listening party, The Game explained how their connection developed when Drake first entered the rap scene. “When Drake came into the game, he adapted to me. We got close … I don’t flip-flop on my friends,” he said.
That statement comes as The Game begins a new chapter with The Documentary III, the latest installment in the album series that dates back to his landmark 2005 debut. The project features Drake alongside Kanye West, Lil Wayne, PartyNextDoor, Snoop Dogg, Larry June, Leon Thomas, YG, Black Thought, AZ Chike, Drakeo the Ruler, Lefty Gunplay, RJMrLA, Mike & Keys and Tyga.
Kendrick is also referenced directly on the album. On “LA Monster,” The Game raps, “I ain’t got no problem with the boogeyman / And he ain’t got no problem with me / ’Cuz I’ma LA Monster,” before adding another apparent nod with the line, “I might drive the Rose today / The GNX scare the h*es away.”
The lyrics naturally attracted attention because of the history surrounding The Game, Kendrick and Drake, particularly following Drake and Kendrick’s highly publicized feud. Still,
The Documentary III also marks The Game’s first studio album since 2022’s Drillmatic – Heart vs. Mind, a 30-track project featuring Drake, Kanye West and Big Sean. That album generated headlines through “Eazy” with Kanye West and “The Black Slim Shady,” his pointed Eminem diss.
