Emerging from the music scene in Copenhagen, Denmark, DJ duo Bless You is making a name for themselves with their soulful and nostalgic electronic sound. Comprising longtime friends Viktor and Morris, Bless You blends elements of House, Indie Electronic, and Dance music, drawing inspiration from a diverse array of artists, including David Bowie, Miike Snow, Stevie Wonder, and Swedish House Mafia. This blend of influences, combined with their authentic connection to the music they create, has helped them achieve a remarkable 50 million streams, and it’s just the beginning.
The duo’s journey began long before the formation of Bless You. Growing up together, attending the same school, and even playing in the same band as kids, Viktor and Morris always shared a deep love for music. For them, it was a natural progression to form this project and pursue their dream of making music together. Their unique sound is characterized by a mix of energy, hope, and a touch of mystery—qualities that the duo believes resonate deeply with listeners in today’s chaotic world.
For their latest single, “Home,” the duo traveled to the remote island of Bornholm, where they frequently escape for inspiration. With more new music on the horizon and plans for a tour next year, Bless You spoke with InMusic to discuss their new single, reflect on their evolution, share the story behind their music, and look ahead to what’s next.
How would you define your music?
Our sound is inspired by what we grew up listening to – everything from David Bowie, SHM, Miike Snow to Stevie Wonder (the list goes on and on)… It’s nostalgic, dark, sexy, hopeful, soulful and has some sort of destination, like a journey, that tends to work around Viktors big chords and Morris’ vocals.
What inspired you to form a duo and pursue a career in music together?
It’s been a dream as long as we can remember. We grew up together, went to the same school, played in the same band when we were kids – we have always had the same love and understanding for music. It was natural that we would come together and start this project one day.
Why did you choose Bless You as your stage name?
That happened over a brainstorm, before releasing our first track. Viktor said “Gesundheit” which is Bless You in German but that sounded a bit too complicated. So we translated that into English and Bless You was born. We like the meaning of it as it has a positive ring to it and also sounds a bit mysterious. It’s a universal expression and something everyone understands.
You’ve already hit over 50 million streams! What do you think it is about your music that connects so deeply with listeners?
Yea, it’s crazy. Hmm.. maybe the simplicity but also the fact that it sounds like something you have heard before but at the same time can’t find anywhere else. It’s music that’s full of energy, hope and motivation. We think people need this, especially these days, with a world in complete chaos.
Can you tell us about your new single “Home”?
‘Home’ was created in a small cottage located on the very peaceful, remote island of Bornholm where we have an interemistic studio setup. We tend to go and search for inspiration and calmness. The cottage is placed on a beautiful mountain cliff overlooking the ocean and there are barely any people half the year.
The track started as a nostalgic French House-ish vibe with the sampled vocals, when Morris started singing some melodies that felt good – a melancholy that sounded like the longing of getting home.
We made the track before playing one of our biggest ever shows in Denmark. We already had a lot of high energy tracks in the set, so we thought ‘Home’ fitted well with its more groovy yet big and hopeful vibe.
What’s next for Bless You following the release of “Home,” and can we expect more new music or projects in the near future?
We are working on a lot of new music, with different acts and producers (can’t spoil anything yet). We’ll be dropping new music at the end of the year but also just started putting out music on SoundCloud frequently, so keep an eye out. We found out that not all our music is fitted for the streaming services, so we needed an outlet for all the forgotten tracks, the DJ tool tracks and so on.
