Céline Dion’s long-awaited return to the stage became an emotional homecoming in Paris on Saturday night, as the singer opened her first full concert in six years at the sold-out Plenitude Arena in Nanterre. In front of roughly 30,000 fans, Dion fought back tears during the opening moments and immediately acknowledged just how long the road back had been.
The concert began with Jean-Jacques Goldman’s “On ne change pas,” before Dion paused to wipe away tears. “I had promised myself not to cry,” she told the crowd in French and English. “I don’t keep my promises. But I’m so happy to see you all. I missed you.”

Saturday’s show marked the beginning of a 16-date Paris run stretching through mid-October, with another 10 performances scheduled for May 2027. The 26-concert residency was announced in March on Dion’s 58th birthday, offering a carefully structured return designed around her health rather than an extensive touring schedule.
Dion was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in December 2022 after experiencing symptoms for years. The condition eventually made walking and singing extremely difficult, forcing the cancellation of her Courage World Tour. Her only major public performance since then came at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, where she delivered Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower.
The Paris residency represents a very different approach to her comeback. Instead of moving between cities, Dion is performing in one venue with recovery days built into the schedule, allowing her to maintain a more controlled routine. Her preparation has included medication, immunotherapy, vocal work, Pilates and ballet, while creative direction for the production comes from Willo Perron.
Musically, the opening night balanced Dion’s French repertoire with the international hits that have defined her career. Alongside Goldman favorites including “Destin,” “Encore un soir” and “J’irai où tu iras,” she performed “Because You Loved Me,” “The Power of Love,” “My Heart Will Go On” and “Beauty and the Beast.” The set also featured Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” and the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams,” while “Dansons” received its live debut.
