How would you define your music?
Attainable, light-hearted, and hopefully memorable. (but still classic)
Can you tell us about your new single “You and I”?
“You and I” was written in 2021, and its foundation, like a lot of my music, is a strong melody that flows through the whole song.
What is the meaning behind this song?
I don’t think there’s a particular meaning to the song. It came about really fast, so I didn’t really stop to think about it. To me it’s just a fun, melodic song.
What do you hope listeners will take away from the song?
I hope the people who listen to it will feel better in some way after having heard it. Even if it’s just a slight elevation in mood, I would consider that a huge success. I find that a lot of music that comes out lately takes itself so seriously, so “You and I” should be a break from that.
How do you see “You and I” fitting into the overall theme or concept of your upcoming EP, “Chasing Ghosts”?
It’s meant to be the most fun and uptempo song on the EP. It’s closer to a pop song than any of the others, but it’s performed in a way that makes it fit with the whole project.
Can you give us some insight into the other tracks featured on the EP, “Chasing Ghosts”?
There’s a little bit of everything on there, or at least as much of everything that you can get out of five songs. That was the goal from the start, to have a five song project that showcases the broad spectrum of music that I write. What matters to me is how the songs are constructed, everything else is a result of how myself and the band felt each one should be performed. As a whole, it flows from start to finish.
What is a message you would like to give through your music and why?
I don’t really have any kind of message other than overall positivity and hope for the future. Like I said before, I find so much of today’s music to be incredibly dramatic, if not depressing. I know there’s a time and place for that, but for me personally, the music that I resonate with has always contained some degree of hopefulness. If I had to pick something, I would say don’t take yourself, or anything else too seriously. A lot of what you take seriously now ends up being forgotten about in the long term.
