SISTRA is a dynamic Pop/Alt Pop duo from London, UK.
The duo consists of two sisters, ‘we have always played together, but lockdown gave us the time to properly work on our music – we haven’t looked back!’
In 2023 these talented sisters released the pop banger ‘You’re a Lot,’ which was a massive success with nearly 170K streams on Spotify. If you’re craving a dose of their pop hits, look no further. In fact, SISTRA’s brand new single, ‘Looking at You (Female Gaze),’ was released just a couple weeks ago. In their exclusive interview with us, the sisters have shared some insights on the new song and announced an EP launch gig on August 17th.
What inspired you to form a duo and pursue a career in music together?
We’re sisters and have always played together, but lockdown gave us the time to properly work on our music – we haven’t looked back!
Can you tell us about your new single “Looking at You (Female Gaze)”?
We felt the world needed another fun track celebrating the female gaze, something light, thirsty that also jokily comments on the patriarchy & expectations of women. Flipping the male gaze narrative on its head, it perfectly encapsulates lustful desire – fancying someone so much you can hardly focus on what they’re saying…
This is your third release. How is your music evolving?
We’re definitely keen to push our sound – we love what PinkPantheress is doing, and are working on some more garage/drum n bass beats at the moment.
You have released three singles so far. Are you planning to release an album?
We have a 6 track EP releasing 17th August called ‘the pursuit of feeling fine’ – go check it out!
What is a message you would like to give through your music and why?
I wouldn’t say we have a singular message we want to deliver through our music, we definitely want to try and capture feelings of heartache & existentialism – and hopefully people feel a shared sense of this.
