Originally from Sweden, Linn Holmes is a rising talent based in Los Angeles, California. With a blend of Blues and Rock, Linn is ready to captivate listeners with her debut EP “Introducing Linn Holmes,” out today. The four-track project includes the previously released singles “Cut Me” and “Baby Blue,” which served as her first songs. While her solo career kicked off in 2024, Linn’s musical journey began long ago. She was introduced to music during her formative years when she joined her mother in a gospel choir. Growing up, she worked as a backing vocalist for various artists across multiple genres, from rock to metal. A turning point arrived when Linn met producer Rev. Tom Chandler, and together they started working on her solo music. Now that her debut EP is finally out, the Swedish singer looks forward to creating more music and increasing her live performances.
To mark the release of her EP, Linn chatted with InMusic to share insights into the project and also recalled the time when she sang with her mother and later as a backing vocalist.
How would you define your music?
I would probably describe my music as soulful, retro and organic.
You started singing in a gospel choir with your mother at a young age. Is there a particular memory from that time that has had a lasting impact on you?
I think my absolute first musical memory stems from there – I remember my mom practicing the gospel standard “Oh, Happy Day” in the living room and running her harmonies, urging me to sing a long and dancing along with me. I feel like it’s one of those core memories that just stuck with me, I couldn’t tell you how old I was or any real details – so I must have been very young!
Having grown up with a mother who sang gospel and a father who loved rock ‘n’ roll, how did their musical tastes shape your approach to music?
I think the main thing that my parents imprinted on me is their appreciation for music and how much they loved it, as well as the connection music can bring – in how we connected so much through it.
You’ve worked on background vocals for various artists, from metal to rock genres. How do you adapt your voice to fit different styles?
It’s definitely taken lots of practicing, but I find there’s different vocal approaches to each genre and a lot of it comes down to adapting according to the lead singer and their vocal tone, style and defaults. The key is really studying the material and learning the singers vocal attributes, in order to do as good of a job as possible
When did you decide it was time to start a solo career?
I’ve always kind of had it in the back of my head, but it wasn’t until I met producer Rev. Tom Chandler and the fall of 2023, that I felt it was time. We instantly clicked and that just felt like the sign to do it. I’ve been sitting on these songs for a while but the timing of everything just felt right.
Can you tell us about your debut EP “Introducing Linn Holmes”?
My debut EP is a lighthearted rock collection containing 4-songs, written by me and Rev. Tom Chandler. Much like the 70s icons that inspired me the most, the EP has a very organic sound to it and features the talents of Daniel Jakubovic, Derek Frank, Adam Peri, Andrew Benjamin Maldonado, Tom Chandler, Alexy Shant Yeghikian and Jenny Dang. I am beyond grateful to have had such amazing musicians work on this EP – they are absolutely phenomenal. And I am so so so grateful for Tom, he is truly outstanding and just amazing.
If you were a listener picking a song from your debut EP, which track would you choose and why?
That’s a though question! All the tracks kind of have their own identity, however I would probably choose “Baby Blue” – as I find it would become a good introduction to the music and it’s very uplifting and upbeat!
Based on your debut EP “Introducing Linn Holmes,” how would you describe Linn Holmes in three words?
Soulful, retro and real! With my music, I really want to put an emphasis on keeping it as organic and raw as possible.
Looking ahead, how do you envision your music and career evolving in the next few years?
I’d love to be releasing more music, playing more stages and with more people!
What is a message you would like to give through your music and why?
That music is magic and if you work hard enough, anything is possible.
