In this exclusive interview with InMusic, SKAI shares insights into her creative world, her journey from Lithuania to Denmark, and what comes next in her evolving story.
How would you describe your music?
It’s emotional, rhythmic, and feminine. I always try to mix feeling with energy — something that hits both your heart and your body.
Your journey from Lithuania to Copenhagen has shaped your sound and career. How does the Copenhagen club scene influence your artistic direction?
Copenhagen definitely opened my mind to new sounds and culture. The club scene here is still growing within electronic music – but people are not afraid to be different, and that inspires and motivates me to bring something new to the culture.
Can you walk us through your creative process when crafting new music? Where do you draw inspiration from?
It usually starts with a feeling. Sometimes it’s a vocal, sometimes it’s just a rhythm that gets stuck in my head. I draw a lot of inspiration from emotions – moments in life, things I go through, or even random conversations that stay with me. From there, I start building around that emotion, layering drums, grooves, and textures until it starts to feel like my own world.
I also love playing around with Al vocals, especially because I enjoy writing lyrics myself. It’s a fun way to experiment with melodies and emotions before bringing a track fully to life. I’m really inspired by artists like Alex Wann, Keinemusik, and Marten Lou – they all have this beautiful balance of groove and emotion that I try to bring into my own sound too.
Can you tell us about your new single “Epissure”?
Epissure is a track that connects fashion and club culture. I wanted to make something that sounds sexy, confident, and stylish – like the soundtrack of a runway or a late-night party during fashion week. It’s a collaboration with talented Swedish producer Naarly, which I am a big fan of myself.
What is the meaning behind this song?
Epissure is about that moment when the lights hit, the music kicks in, and you just own the room. It’s confidence, movement, and energy all blending together. It’s the sound of walking through a crowd and feeling completely in your element — powerful, untouchable, and free.
For me, it’s not just a song you dance to; it’s a mood. It’s that inner glow when you feel beautiful and strong, when the rhythm matches your heartbeat. That’s the world I wanted to create with Epissure — a mix of elegance, attitude, and emotion.
“Epissure” features French vocals. Why did you choose French in particular, and how do you think language influences the mood of a song?
French just felt right. It has this natural elegance and sensuality that matched the vibe I wanted. I think language really sets the tone – you don’t even have to understand the words to feel what it means.
With “Epissure” marking a new chapter, what story do you hope the next phase of your music will tell?
This next chapter for me is all about growth and confidence — being bold with my sound and not being afraid to explore deeper, more niche directions. I want to keep evolving, working with new artists, and pushing my own boundaries creatively.
At the same time, I want everything I release to still feel true to who I am. It’s about finding that balance between experimenting and staying connected to my roots — letting the sound grow naturally with me..
What is a message you would like to give through your music and why?
That it’s okay to be yourself — fully and unapologetically. My music is about freedom, emotion, and connection. I want people to feel seen, empowered, and inspired to move – both physically and emotionally.
Is there anything else you’d like people to know?
Yes – that I’m just getting started. There’s so much more to come: more shows, more collaborations, and more stories to tell through music. I’m grateful for everyone who’s been part of this journey so far.
