Chungha is officially kicking off her new musical chapter. The South Korean singer announced that her new digital single, “México,” will be released on September 1 at 6 p.m. KST, giving fans a long-awaited studio version of a song that has remained unreleased for years.
The announcement arrived alongside a teaser featuring the Spanish phrase “Tú y yo vámonos,” immediately hinting at the Latin-inspired direction of the track. While the title may be new to casual listeners, longtime fans will recognize “México” as one of Chungha’s elusive unreleased songs, first performed live roughly five years ago before ultimately being shelved.
Originally, the song was intended for Bare & Rare Pt. 2, the canceled follow-up to Bare & Rare Pt. 1, which arrived in July 2022 with the lead single “Sparkling.” Those plans changed after Chungha departed MNH Entertainment in 2023, leaving several completed tracks in limbo. Since joining Jay Park’s More Vision later that year, she has repeatedly expressed her desire to revisit the material and release it when the timing felt right.
Fans attending her “Vamos a Escapar a México” taco-truck event in Seoul’s Seongsu district on August 4 already received an early preview. During the promotional event, Chungha performed a Spanish-language version of the song, fueling speculation that the official release will include both English and Spanish versions. She also confirmed that the choreography was created by longtime collaborator Gabee, whose work has become closely associated with Chungha’s signature performance style.
The single carries personal meaning beyond its origins. Earlier this summer, Chungha traveled to Mexico with her mother to watch South Korea compete at the World Cup, fulfilling one of her mother’s longtime dreams. Reflecting on the release, the K-pop idol described it as “a song that I had only performed live about five years ago” before encouraging fans to enjoy it while driving and support its long-awaited arrival.
“México” follows “Save Me,” released on February 9, 2026, to celebrate Chungha’s 30th birthday. The introspective electro-pop single explored the contrast between the future she once imagined and the uncertainties she continues to navigate. It also built on the momentum of her 2025 EP Alivio, led by “Stress,” and her successful first releases under More Vision, including “Eenie Meenie” featuring ATEEZ’s Hongjoong and “Algorithm.”
