SEVENTEEN has officially announced its newest subunit, bringing together two of the group’s most recognizable vocalists. On September 22, PLEDIS Entertainment unveiled JEONGHAN X JOSHUA with a first artistic teaser, introducing an atmospheric concept built around smoky visuals, particles and abstract lettering.
The announcement follows PLEDIS’ confirmation in July that the pair would release their first mini-album in October. JEONGHAN X JOSHUA will become SEVENTEEN’s seventh official subunit, giving Jeonghan his second unit project and Joshua his first.

The duo’s pairing has been anticipated by fans for years. Born in 1995, Jeonghan and Joshua have frequently been associated as a close vocal pairing and have been affectionately nicknamed “the twins” by fans. Their chemistry also predates the new project, with the two appearing together on the 2018 SEVENTEEN B-side “Falling for U.”
Conceptually, the upcoming project appears to take their partnership into a more atmospheric direction. The first teaser uses smoky textures, floating particles and stylized letter formations, creating an intentionally abstract world that suggests a contrast between reality and fantasy.
The project also arrives at an important moment for SEVENTEEN. Jeonghan completed his social-service military duty on June 25, becoming the first member of the group to complete his enlistment. His return has opened the door to a new phase of activities, with the JEONGHAN X JOSHUA project becoming one of his first major musical moves since completing his service.
SEVENTEEN has increasingly relied on subunits to give individual members room to explore different musical identities while maintaining activity during the group’s staggered military-service period. BSS, made up of DK, Seungkwan and Hoshi, debuted in 2018, while Jeonghan X Wonwoo followed with This Man in 2024.
The lineup expanded further with Hoshi X Woozi’s Beam in 2025 and S.Coups X Mingyu’s Hype Vibes later that year. DK X Seungkwan followed with Serenade in January 2026, while V8, featuring Vernon and The8, became the group’s sixth official unit in June.
