Ethel Cain returns with Perverts, her first album since her 2022 debut, Preacher’s Daughter. Released via her own label, Daughters of Cain, the album leans heavily into dark ambient sounds and post-industrial noise, marking a significant departure from her previous narrative and exploring darker, more experimental soundscapes. Last year, Cain hinted at this new direction when she told Interview Magazine, “I have a huge affinity for slowcore and ambient music. I feel a bit more confident doing that and less worried about what people will think.”
Tracks like “Perverts,” “Housofpsychoticwomn,” “Pulldrone,” and “Amber Waves” stretch beyond 10 minutes, showcasing Cain’s intent to craft lengthy, immersive pieces, with some exceeding 13 minutes in duration.
