The first New Music Friday of July is packed with major releases, as Madonna, Sienna Spiro, Ken Carson and several other artists arrive with new projects tonight.
More than 20 years after Confessions on a Dance Floor reshaped dance-pop, Madonna reunites with producer Stuart Price for Confessions II, released through Warner Records. The album is designed as a direct continuation of its Grammy-winning predecessor, once again presented as a seamless continuous mix inspired by Chicago house and Detroit techno.
The project was born after Madonna and Price reconnected while working together on the Celebration Tour. Following the cancellation of her planned biopic, the pair shifted their attention toward creating a record that embraced movement and escapism during a period Madonna described as emotionally challenging. Confessions II features collaborations with Sabrina Carpenter, Martin Garrix, Stromae, Feid and Lola Leon.
One of the year’s fastest-rising new voices officially enters the album conversation tonight. London singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro releases her debut LP Visitor through Capitol Records after months of building momentum with songs including “Die on This Hill,” “The Visitor” and “Material Lover.”
Executive produced by Omer Fedi, the album leans into live instrumentation instead of heavily programmed production, combining soul, jazz and contemporary pop with orchestral arrangements.
Ken Carson also returns with one of hip-hop’s biggest releases of the summer. His fifth studio album, xperiment, arrives via Opium and Interscope Records as the follow-up to More Chaos, which previously debuted atop the Billboard 200.
The 23-track set continues Carson’s futuristic “Glo” sound, built around distorted 808s, aggressive synths and hyperactive trap production. Features include Playboi Carti, Destroy Lonely, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug and producer 2hollis. The album lands one day after Carson performed at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival.
Noteworthy releases also come from Céline Dion, Jorja Smith and WizKid, Snow Patrol and Kylie Minogue, Becky Hill, Rico Nasty, Rylo Rodriguez, and more.
