Ariana Grande is set to step away from the spotlight after wrapping her Eternal Sunshine Tour. According to a statement from her representative shared with People, the singer plans to take an extended break from public-facing work following the final show of the 41-date arena run on September 1 at London’s O2 Arena.
The representative said the decision comes after years of intense attention surrounding the pop superstar. “Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour. She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny. This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
Additionally, Ariana Grande has stepped back from playing Dot in the Barbican’s summer 2027 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.
Just days ago, Ariana Grande launched her eighth studio album, petal, which debuted with 62.19 million Spotify streams worldwide on its first day. Every song from the 12-track project entered the Daily Global Spotify Chart, led by the title track “petal,” which opened at No. 1 with 7.822 million streams. Lead single “hate that i made you love me” followed closely behind at No. 2, while Grande also finished July 31 as Spotify’s most-streamed artist worldwide.
Themes of public pressure and impossible expectations run throughout the petal era, making the timing of the representative’s statement particularly striking. The Christian Breslauer-directed music video for “petal” follows Ariana Grande’s alter ego Pepper as she repeatedly alters her appearance in pursuit of acceptance, only to face rejection and criticism at every turn. Throughout the visual, executives label her “unmarketable,” “inauthentic,” and “desperate,” offering a pointed commentary on the entertainment industry’s relentless standards.
The Eternal Sunshine Tour has also marked Grande’s long-awaited return to touring. The trek began on June 6 in Oakland in support of Eternal Sunshine and its Brighter Days Ahead reissue before expanding to include material from petal. The tour concludes September 1 in London after 41 arena shows across North America and Europe.
Grande has not revealed how long her hiatus will last or when she plans to return with new music or performances. For now, her focus appears to be on finishing the tour.
