Madonna and Charli XCX are officially joining forces on “Danceteria (Afterhours),” a new remix from Madonna’s 2026 album Confessions II, arriving September 24. The pair confirmed the collaboration with a brief teaser on social media, turning weeks of speculation into an official release.

The original “Danceteria” is one of the tracks that connects Confessions II to Madonna’s early New York years. The song takes its title from the legendary Manhattan club where Madonna established herself in the early 1980s and interpolates Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side,” bringing together two key references from the city’s downtown music culture.

Charli XCX’s involvement adds a contemporary club-pop perspective to a track already rooted in dance music history. The collaboration also gives the two artists a chance to connect their respective relationships with club culture, with Madonna’s decades-long influence meeting Charli’s work at the center of the current pop and electronic scene.

The announcement follows a series of clues that began earlier this month. On September 6, Madonna posted a video on Instagram accompanied by the words “Thinking about Charli…..,” prompting Charli to respond, “wait…. i got something i wanna talk about!” Neither artist confirmed the nature of the project at the time, leaving fans to speculate about a song, remix or potential performance.

Those theories gained momentum because of the pair’s recent appearances together. Madonna and Charli were spotted partying in Paris in June during Paris Fashion Week, following the Club Confessions event, where their connection became another talking point among fans.

The timing also places the remix within an important period for both artists. Madonna released Confessions II on July 3, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 134,000 equivalent album units. The album became her 10th chart-topping album and her strongest opening week since 2012.

Charli XCX released Music, Fashion, Film on July 24. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 78,000 units and topped the Top Album Sales chart, while also giving the British pop star another No. 1 album in the U.K. The project followed 2024’s Brat and continued Charli’s focus on electronic production, club culture and experimental pop.

Their collaboration also carries an extra layer of context. Earlier this year, Charli’s “Rock Music” featured a lyric declaring the dancefloor dead, which appeared to draw a response from Madonna during the Confessions II era.
