Dublin-based artist ARREN is aiming for something bigger than standard indie-folk catharsis on his brand new single. Released today, May 12, “Thinking About July” arrives as a sweeping orchestral pop-rock anthem that transforms heartbreak into something euphoric, pairing emotional urgency with towering brass, cinematic strings, and arena-sized momentum.
Built around the collapse of a relationship with an unavoidable expiration date, the track leans into contradiction rather than melancholy alone. “Thinking About July” captures the intensity of loving someone fully while knowing the ending is already approaching, channeling both exhilaration and grief into one explosive arrangement. Instead of collapsing under that emotional weight, ARREN pushes forward through it.
Sonically, “Thinking About July” pulls from multiple corners of modern alternative music, channeling the emotional weight of artists like Hozier, Mumford & Sons, and Florence + The Machine. Heavy brass arrangements and soaring strings shape the track’s cinematic atmosphere, expanding its emotional scale without sacrificing intimacy. That tension between grandeur and vulnerability has become increasingly central to ARREN’s artistic identity. Across his recent work, the Irish singer-songwriter has built a reputation for transforming deeply personal reflections into cathartic live experiences, favoring emotional release over quiet introspection.
“The songs hold all the weight so that when we play them live, the room has a shared release of joy,” ARREN said in a statement. Describing the song as “a fierce, uplifting anthem for anyone who likes their high-stakes romance with a side of boogie,” he also pointed to the growing ambition behind his performances following last year’s sold-out Whelan’s show in Dublin.
“Thinking About July” arrives alongside the announcement of a four-date Irish tour, which will bring ARREN’s increasingly theatrical live show across the country. The first stop takes place today at Little Whelan’s in Dublin, celebrating the song’s release. The run then continues through Galway and Belfast before wrapping up with a final hometown show later in May.
