The FIFA World Cup 2026 is officially entering its pop-star era. FIFA announced that Katy Perry, LISA, Tyla, Future, Anitta, and Rema will headline the opening ceremony celebrations in Los Angeles, launching what is expected to become the biggest World Cup in history.
Scheduled for Friday, June 12, the Los Angeles ceremony will take place at Los Angeles Stadium and begin 90 minutes before kickoff. FIFA described the event as a “landmark celebration across North America,” combining football, music, and large-scale entertainment as the United States officially welcomes fans from around the globe.
The 2026 edition already represents a historic shift for the tournament. For the first time ever, the FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — with opening ceremonies planned across all three nations. Los Angeles will serve as the centerpiece event on June 12, while additional celebrations are scheduled for Mexico City on June 11 and Toronto on June 12.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the cultural significance behind the artist selection. “This opening ceremony in Los Angeles represents the extraordinary scale of what the FIFA World Cup 2026 will become,” he said in an official statement. Infantino added that the lineup reflects “the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas,” while highlighting music’s ability to unite audiences globally.
Mexico City’s ceremony will feature a separate lineup including J Balvin, Belinda, Maná, Los Ángeles Azules, Danny Ocean, Alejandro Fernández, Tyla and Lila Downs. Meanwhile, Toronto’s festivities will include Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, and additional international performers.
