K-pop sensation Jennie recently opened up about her upcoming solo album in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. The star revealed that she’s prepared for the world’s reaction as she steps into a new phase of her career—one that reflects a more personal side of herself, different from what fans have seen with BLACKPINK.

In the interview, Jennie shared her thoughts on the pressure and excitement of reintroducing herself as a solo artist. “I don’t want to lose their trust,” she said, referencing her dedicated fanbase, who have supported her for years as one-fourth of BLACKPINK. “It is so important for me that my culture, and people around the world, love and support me.”
Jennie is no stranger to the limelight, but this time around, she’s determined to stay true to herself, even if it means letting go of some of the glamour associated with her BLACKPINK image. “You should be you,” she emphasized. “It might not seem as glamorous as who you were. BLACKPINK Jennie will always be a part of me, but you will also get to experience this new side.”
This moment marks a significant shift for Jennie, as she prepares to kick off her solo career. She recently signed a recording deal with Columbia Records to release her solo music. Yesterday (Sept. 18), she teased new music on the way through a voice message, in which she also announced that her fandom will be called RUBIES: “Hi Rubies, it’s Jennie. Stay tuned and see you soon. Love you, bye!”
Jennie was the first BLACKPINK member to release solo music. In 2018, she unleashed her debut single “SOLO,” building up the anticipation for her first solo project. However, it took five years before fans heard new solo material from the 28-year-old singer. In 2023, she was featured on the hit single “One of the Girls,” from the HBO series The Idol. The song now counts over 1 billion streams on Spotify, making Jennie the first K-pop female soloist to achieve this milestone. That same year, she released another solo track, “You & Me.” This year, she appears on ZICO’s “SPOT!” and Matt Champion’s “Slow Motion.”
