As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the music industry, Coco Jones is adding her voice to the growing conversation about technology, creativity, and authenticity. In a recent interview with Complex, the Grammy-nominated R&B singer reflected on the rise of AI-generated music and virtual artists, some of whom are now charting alongside human performers on Billboard charts.
Asked about the increasing visibility of AI-created acts, including digital artists such as Xania Monet, Jones emphasized that music’s lasting power lies in shared human emotion. “I think what has always drawn me to music, and what I think always will draw people to music, is the feeling that we’re all humans going through similar experiences in different ways,” she said.
Jones’ comments arrive at a pivotal moment for the industry. As AI tools become more sophisticated, debates around authorship, originality, and artistic value have intensified. While some artists express concern about creative displacement, others view AI as a tool rather than a replacement. Recently, Teddy Swims revealed that he uses AI to support early stages of music-making. Jones stopped short of rejecting innovation outright, but her focus remained on lived experience and emotional truth, elements she believes technology cannot fully replicate.
The singer’s perspective carries particular weight given her own artistic journey. In April 2025, Jones released her debut studio album, Why Not More?. The project was widely praised for its vocal clarity, cohesive production, and emotional depth. Featuring guest appearances from Future and YG Marley, the album showcased a balance between contemporary R&B polish and classic soul influences.
Why Not More? earned a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards and peaked at No. 59 on the Billboard 200. Its lead single, “Here We Go (Uh Oh),” received a Gold certification from the RIAA.
