Doja Cat is stepping into a new chapter. The Grammy-winning artist has just announced that her fifth studio album, Vie, will arrive on September 26 via Kemosabe and RCA Records. The announcement comes just a week before the release of the album’s lead single, “Jealous Type,” which she premiered during her recent headlining set at Outside Lands 2025.

The announcement sent fans into a frenzy. With “Jealous Type” on the horizon, Doja Cat is making a clear sonic shift. Following the rap-heavy experimentation of her last project, Scarlet, she’s returning to a pop-driven sound infused with vintage influences from the 1970s and 1980s. While many details about Vie are still under wraps, including the official tracklist and cover art, there are already several facts confirmed. Here’s what we know so far about Doja Cat’s highly anticipated new album.

Recording and Creative Direction

Vie was recorded between 2022 and 2025 at Marival Studios in Correns, France — a setting Doja described as creatively grounding. This slower, more intentional process allowed her to explore fresh textures and narratives without the pressure of rapid releases. Thematically, Vie dives into love, romance, sex, and self-relationship. But instead of leaning into heartbreak and cynicism, Doja aims for optimism and authenticity. In a recent interview with V Magazine, she explained, “I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project,” noting that the album embraces emotional connection without chasing chart formulas.

While retro influence plays a big role, Doja avoids clichés. The sound borrows lo-fi synth-pop textures and nostalgic undertones to evoke memory and mood but never slips into direct pastiche. “It’s how things sound that makes the music worth listening to,” she said. “I want to embrace imperfection.”

“Jealous Type” and the Antonoff Factor

Marking the lead single from Vie, “Jealous Type” offers the first glimpse into this new era. Fans got a taste of it at Outside Lands Festival, where Doja performed the track for the first time. The song sets a noticeably different tone from her recent work, exuding 80s pop energy. Helping bring this sound to life is none other than Jack Antonoff — a master in crafting modern pop hits whose résumé includes collaborations with Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, and Lorde.

From Scarlet to Vie

Doja’s last album, Scarlet, arrived in September 2023 and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Fueled by the global hit “Paint the Town Red,” the project leaned heavily into rap and experimental arrangements, earning praise for its bold artistic risks. But with Vie, she’s signaling a pivot — one that reconnects with her pop roots. In fact, while she gained widespread attention for her rap versatility, Doja Cat’s career truly took off in 2020 when the smash pop hit “Say So” went viral.

Promotion and Rollout

Doja began hinting at Vie months ago — wiping her social media, changing profile images, and posting cryptic teasers. On July 21, she confirmed the album’s completion with a simple French tweet: “L’album est complet.”

Her Outside Lands set served as the official turning point, with “Jealous Type” debuting to an electrified crowd. With Vie set to arrive September 26, fans can expect more reveals in the coming weeks — possibly including a full tracklist, additional singles, and music videos.
