Doja Cat has taken aim at Tyga over his decision to use artificial intelligence while making his new album $tarface. During a Twitch livestream, the rapper offered an unsolicited critique of the project, calling Tyga a “p*nis” for making what she described as an AI album.
“Nobody asked me anything about Tyga, but I just felt like saying this,” Doja Cat told viewers. “Tyga is a p*nis for making an AI album.”
Her comments directly address Tyga’s latest creative direction under his Starface alter ego. Released July 31, 2026, $tarface is the rapper’s ninth studio album and moves away from his familiar hip-hop sound in favor of an ’80s-inspired blend of synth-pop, R&B, funk and synth-wave.
Tyga has been open about incorporating AI into the project. In an interview with Vibe earlier this month, he explained that he and his team used artificial intelligence for certain production elements, including ’80s-style synthesizers and guitar solos that needed to be completed quickly. He maintained, however, that the songwriting and vocals on the album were entirely his own.
The rapper also defended the technology by comparing the current backlash against AI with the criticism surrounding Auto-Tune when it first became prominent in popular music. “It’s no different than when Auto-Tune came out,” Tyga said, arguing that artists who adapt to new technology can use it creatively. He added that he was not concerned about the criticism because his primary goal was to create an experience for listeners.
That explanation has done little to quiet the criticism surrounding $tarface. The album received a 0.0 score from Pitchfork, marking the publication’s first zero-star rating in 19 years. The review delivered a particularly harsh assessment of the project, adding another layer to the debate surrounding Tyga’s use of AI.
Doja Cat’s reaction also aligns with comments she has made about artificial intelligence in music. In June, she rejected supposed leaked tracks attributed to her after determining that they were AI-generated, responding publicly with “F*ck AI for real” while expressing frustration that some fans believed the material was authentic.
