Dua Lipa has reached another historic streaming milestone, as her self-titled debut album surpasses 15 billion streams on Spotify. The achievement makes her the first woman ever to have two albums cross the 15 billion mark on the platform, following the massive success of Future Nostalgia.
With this milestone, Dua Lipa breaks a tie with Olivia Rodrigo and SZA, becoming the first female artist to hold multiple albums above that threshold. Just weeks earlier, Future Nostalgia became her first project to hit 15 billion streams, placing her among an elite group of global streaming heavyweights.
Released on June 2, 2017, Dua Lipa marked a defining entry into the pop mainstream. The album’s commercial trajectory was gradual but powerful. While Dua Lipa debuted modestly in 2017, it gained significant momentum in 2018, peaking at No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and reaching the top 10 in 13 countries. Singles like “Be the One,” “IDGAF,” and especially “New Rules” drove its global breakthrough, with the latter becoming her first UK No. 1 and a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The Complete Edition reissue in October 2018 extended its lifespan further, adding “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris—later named the best-selling song of 2018 in the UK—and “Electricity” with Silk City.
Critically, the album positioned Dua Lipa as one of pop’s most promising new voices. It earned a nomination for British Album of the Year at the Brit Awards, while its singles dominated the British Single of the Year category, with “One Kiss” taking the win. The project also played a key role in securing her Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
The streaming milestone reflects not only the album’s longevity but also the strength of her catalog in the streaming era. Future Nostalgia, released on March 27, 2020, set a new commercial benchmark with chart-topping success across 15 countries and a Grammy win for Best Pop Vocal Album.
