Jennifer Lopez is officially celebrating a defining moment in her career. The global superstar has announced J.Lo (25th Anniversary Edition), set for release on January 16, marking exactly twenty-five years since the arrival of her landmark second studio album. Fans can pre-save the anniversary edition on all major streaming platforms, while a limited gold vinyl pressing has also been unveiled.
Originally released on January 16, 2001, J.Lo was a pivotal album that solidified Lopez not only as a pop star, but as a cultural force at the intersection of music, film, and fashion. Arriving just two years after her debut On the 6, the album embraced a more personal tone. Named after the nickname given to her by fans, J.Lo was conceived as an homage to the audience that had propelled her meteoric rise.
Commercially, the album made history. J.Lo debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, coinciding with Lopez’s romantic comedy The Wedding Planner opening at No. 1 at the U.S. box office. The achievement made her one of the few artists to simultaneously top the music and film charts. The album went on to earn quadruple platinum certification in the United States and became the sixth best-selling album worldwide in 2001, with over eight million copies sold globally.
The era produced several defining hits. Lead single “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” became an international anthem, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching No. 1 in the UK.
