Lexa Gates officially kicks off her new era with the brand new single “Past It,” out today (August 29) via Capitol Records. Produced by Emilie Haynie (best known for his work with Lana Del Rey, Kid Cudi, and FKA Twigs), the song sees the 24-year-old rapper and singer delivering a dreamy, groove-driven track that blends lo-fi textures with playful bounce. “Past It” marks the first taste of Lexa’s upcoming sophomore album—due this fall—whose details are expected to be revealed soon, including its title and exact release date.

The release follows a busy year for Gates. Earlier this summer, she dropped “Latency,” a slick collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Jasper Harris and Aaron Shadrow. The track continued her momentum after her acclaimed label debut album Elite Vessel (2024), which featured contributions from Billy Lemos, Alé Araya, and Zelooperz. That record pushed her into the spotlight—especially after her viral stunt in Manhattan’s Union Square, where she locked herself in a transparent box for 10 hours to promote the album.

“Past It” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
