Today, on September 27th, we mark the 10th anniversary since the release of Lorde’s debut album, ‘Pure Heroine.’ This album, characterized by its minimalist, electropop sound with touches of dream pop and hip-hop, received widespread critical acclaim and set Lorde on a path to stardom.
To celebrate the anniversary, the New Zealand singer sent heartfelt messages to her fans, along with never-before-seen photos. “Ten years go by in the blink of an eye,” she reflected. “One moment, you’re wearing a leather collar with a giant crystal at a Chanel party, and the next, you’re blonde. Many things lose their luster after a decade, but I’m still deeply moved by this special record,” she shared.
In a conversation with Joel Little, the producer behind ‘Pure Heroine,’ Lorde opened up about how she connects with the album today, a full decade after its release.
As part of the celebration, the 26-year-old artist also unveiled new merchandise, including a shirt expressing gratitude to her friends and collaborators who have been part of her journey.
Taking a step back to 2013, ‘Pure Heroine’ achieved massive success, largely driven by its lead single, ‘Royals,’ which not only dominated the charts but also earned Lorde two Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year. The album also boasted other hit singles such as ‘Team’ and ‘Glory and Gore.’ Notably, Lorde was just 16 when she wrote and recorded ‘Pure Heroine,’ and the album authentically encapsulates the experiences of her teenage years, delving into themes of growth, self-discovery, and the trials of adolescence.
‘Pure Heroine’ stands as one of the defining albums of the 2010s and has left a lasting mark on the music industry, influencing countless other artists. Rolling Stone described the album as “a stunning debut from a young artist with a unique and powerful voice.”
