Madison Beer is revisiting one of the most painful chapters of her life with rare clarity and resolve. Appearing on CBS Mornings, the singer reflected on the moment her life shifted overnight, when she was just 15 years old and an intimate video she had privately shared with her boyfriend was leaked online without her consent. Within days, the consequences were devastating. She lost her manager, record label, and lawyer in a matter of hours, effectively leaving her without a professional safety net at an age when protection mattered most.

“I think it’s really sad for me to look back and know that I was a minor being absolutely destroyed on social media,” Beer said during the interview. She recalled trending on Twitter as the video circulated widely, accompanied by public shaming that framed her as culpable rather than as a victim. “I was really, really devastated for my younger self because I agreed at the time. I was like, ‘something must be wrong with me.’”

The experience, Beer explained, has left lasting effects that extend well beyond that initial fallout. While she says she feels “very free from that experience now,” the echoes remain. “I still see comments to this day that are like, ‘it was your fault,’” she noted, adding that trust remains one of the hardest things to rebuild. “I deal with a lot of paranoia all the time, constantly think I’m being filmed, being watched.”

The incident occurred around 2014–2015, at a time when Beer was first navigating the music industry after early attention online. Rather than being shielded as a minor whose privacy had been violated, she has since said that many adults around her treated the situation as a career liability. That sense of abandonment became a defining trauma, one she later detailed in her 2023 memoir, The Half of It, where she unpacked the emotional toll of being blamed for something done to her.

More than a decade later, Beer’s willingness to speak openly reflects both distance and growth. Her comments arrive during a period of renewed professional momentum. Her third studio album, Locket, recently debuted at No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and is tracking toward her first Top 10 appearance on the Billboard 200.
