Meghan Trainor is addressing new criticism surrounding her appearance, responding directly to online comments accusing her of betraying the body-positive message that helped launch her career. In a recent interview, the singer opened up about the backlash she has received after sharing her current fitness routine, explaining that the assumptions about her intentions have felt both unfair and deeply confusing.
Trainor, who broke through in 2014 with her chart-topping hit “All About That Bass,” noted that much of the commentary centers on outdated expectations tied to her debut era. “Everyone is like, ‘Why are you thin now? Like you’re the ‘All About That Bass’ girl,’” she said. “I was 19 when I came out with the song, and I’ve been on a fitness journey since I got healthy.” She added that the shift began during her first pregnancy, when she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and realized she needed to invest in long-term health.

That diagnosis pushed Trainor to learn more about nutrition, movement, and sustainable wellness—changes she says were essential for both her personal life and her ability to tour. “I was like, ‘Oh, I gotta learn about fitness and health if I want to tour forever. If I want to lift my kids and not pull my back.’ So now I’m strength training three times a week at the gym and I’m focused on my health.”
The singer emphasized that the physical demands of performing require more than stamina; they require feeling good mentally and physically. “This job is hard to do if you don’t feel good,” she explained. Yet despite focusing on wellbeing, Trainor admitted she was surprised by how sharply some fans reacted. “But I got a lot of hate for being thin, so it confuses me.”
Her comments come ahead of her new musical era. Just a few days ago, Trainor announced her new album Toy With Me, arriving April 24, 2026, alongside a North American tour kicking off that June. The project’s lead single, “Still Don’t Care,” came out on Thursday and responds directly to online negativity. Trainor wrote and produced the album over eight months, balancing studio work with raising her two young sons. She has described Toy With Me as her most personal and joyful record to date—a collection that highlights authenticity and self-assurance while embracing the whimsical pop sound she is known for.
