Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” has reached a milestone that took nearly 44 years to achieve, topping Spotify’s Global chart for the first time as Halloween classics dominated worldwide streaming on October 31, 2026. The 1982 hit collected 6.606 million streams in a single day, pushing several seasonal favorites ahead of some of the biggest songs currently competing on the platform.
The track’s historic climb placed Jackson at the summit of the ranking for the second time in 2026, following “Billie Jean.” Its performance also reflected renewed interest in his catalog throughout the year, with the release of the biopic Michael contributing to the continued visibility of his music.

Halloween favorites occupied three of the Global chart’s top three positions. Ray Parker Jr.‘s “Ghostbusters” followed “Thriller” at No. 2 with 6.07 million streams, while Bobby “Boris” Pickett and The Crypt-Kickers’ “Monster Mash” secured No. 3 with 5.7 million. “This Is Halloween” by The Citizens of Halloween also reached the upper tier, landing at No. 6 with 4.8 million streams.
The gains were particularly striking compared with the previous day’s chart. On October 30, “Thriller” stood at No. 8 with approximately 3.09 million streams, before more than doubling its daily total the following day. “Ghostbusters” climbed from No. 25, “Monster Mash” advanced from No. 35, and “This Is Halloween” moved up from No. 51.
The seasonal surge extended well beyond the traditional Halloween soundtrack. Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” re-entered the Global chart at No. 19 with roughly 2.6 million streams, while Rihanna’s “Disturbia” reached a new peak of No. 20 after climbing 76 positions year over year. The latter collected 2.616 million streams, representing a 16% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Tame Impala’s “Dracula,” featuring JENNIE, also benefited from the seasonal listening spike, rising 50 positions to No. 27 with 2.39 million streams. Britney Spears’ “Toxic” reached a new peak at No. 54 with 1.939 million streams. Gaga had additional entries further down the ranking, with “The Dead Dance” around No. 92, “Poker Face” near No. 93 and “Abracadabra” at No. 94 with 1.56 million streams.
In the United States, Halloween tracks made an equally strong impression, with “Monster Mash” taking the No. 1 position on the October 31 Spotify chart. “Thriller” followed at No. 2, ahead of “Ghostbusters” at No. 3 and “This Is Halloween” at No. 4. “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell reached No. 5, while Andrew Gold’s “Spooky, Scary Skeletons” occupied No. 6.
