Miley Cyrus has officially announced her new single, “Secrets,” set for release this Friday. The Grammy-winning pop star announced the news through a haunting teaser video. In the short clip, Cyrus appears with her face partly hidden behind a veil of translucent white fabric, bathed in soft, ethereal light. The teaser struck fans immediately, with the comments section overflowing with excitement. “YAAPYAYAY MOTHERRR,” one fan screamed in all caps, while another added, “YES CANT WAIT.”

The song marks Cyrus’ first release since her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, which arrived in May. Unlike the existential and cinematic sound of that visual project, “Secrets” promises to cut closer to her personal life. Speaking in an interview with Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, the singer recently revealed the emotional roots of the track:
“I wrote this song about my dad, because I wanted him to tell me, even though they were secrets, even though I didn’t really wanna know, I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family… And I always wanted my family to feel like I was the safe place, that I always had the white flag when they came to talk to me.”
This release comes on the heels of Something Beautiful, a deeply ambitious record. That album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and became her fifteenth top 10 album in the U.S. Internationally, it performed just as strongly, hitting No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart. The LP was supported by several standout singles, including “End of the World” and “Easy Lover.” The project was also accompanied by a full-length visual film, earning praise from fans and critics alike.
