Dove Cameron has revealed that “Do The Math,” the second single from her upcoming debut album Final Girl, has been sitting in the vault for nearly five years. Shortly after the song’s music video arrived, the singer shared an Instagram Stories post featuring a photo of the original finished track dated December 22, 2021, giving fans a glimpse into just how long she has waited to release it.

“Do you guys understand how long I’ve been waiting?” Dove Cameron wrote alongside the image. The date places the song’s completion almost five years before its official release on October 23, 2026, making it one of the clearest examples yet of the extended creative journey behind her long-awaited first full-length album.

“Do The Math” serves as the second single from Final Girl, following “When in Rome.” The 11-track album is scheduled to arrive on November 6, with songs including “Silver Screen Baby,” “Emerald,” “Good on You,” “Hot Girl,” “Skin Over Bone” and “Maybe Heaven Is a Jazz Club.” The project will also include “Immortalized,” “Hands of Man” and “Breaks Open.”

The reveal adds another layer to the album’s unusually long development. In February 2026, Dove Cameron explained that she had been writing and planning her debut record since 2018, shortly after signing with Columbia Records. During an interview with Paper Magazine while promoting Prime Video’s 56 Days, she said the album had been completed multiple times but repeatedly failed to receive approval, eventually forcing her to rewrite the project.

“I think it was just like, not now, not now, not now,” she said at the time, describing years of uncertainty around the release. Her latest post offers a more specific example of how that delay affected the music itself: a finished song from December 2021 remained unreleased until October 2026.

Dove Cameron’s most recent extended project, Alchemical: Volume 1, arrived on December 1, 2023, through Disruptor Records and Columbia Records. The EP explored love, grief and self-reflection through a darker alt-pop sound, building on the success of “Boyfriend,” which went viral on TikTok and reached the Billboard Hot 100’s top 20. She subsequently released standalone tracks including “Too Much,” “French Girls,” “Romeo,” “Whatever You Like,” “Hello My Old Lover” and “When in Rome.”
