Olivia and Chappell are longtime friends. The “So American” singer brought Chappell as a supporting act on both the Sour and Guts tours. In her appearance on the Tonight Show, Olivia revealed that Chappell was also featured on background vocals in some of her songs. She shared a sweet memory from before either of them had signed a record deal. “I love her! I used to visit her when she worked at a donut shop before she got signed. I would go and eat donuts with her and hang out. I’m so proud of her—she deserves it all!” Olivia reminisced. After her rise to fame, Chappell joined Olivia onstage during her concert at the Intuit Dome, so she also appears in the documentary.

The interview wasn’t without surprises. Olivia recounted an unexpected run-in with law enforcement, revealing that she was almost arrested due to a mix-up with a woman who shared a similar name and appearance. She explained, “It was 3 a.m., and I’m delirious. They take me to a room, and it’s an interrogation room. There’s this big cop with, like, a gun, and he’s like, ‘Have you ever been arrested?’ I’m like, ‘No, I haven’t been arrested.’” Olivia’s nerves escalated as the officer doubted her honesty, even warning her about lying to a federal officer.

After 30 tense minutes, the officer realized the confusion stemmed from another person named Olivia Rodriguez. “He was like, ‘Whoa, there’s a girl who looks like you, is your same age, and she’s been arrested multiple times, and her name is Olivia Rodriguez,’” Olivia recalled with a mix of relief and exasperation, joking, “I was pissed! I’m like, ‘You didn’t even look at the name?’— crisis averted.”
