Olivia Rodrigo is set to take over Saturday Night Live with a major milestone appearance. NBC confirmed that the Grammy-winning star will serve as both host and musical guest on May 2, marking her first time hosting and third appearance overall as a performer.
The booking places Rodrigo at the center of the show’s final stretch for season 51, which airs across three consecutive weekends in May. Her episode also marks a rare double-duty slot this season, following Sabrina Carpenter in October 2025 and Harry Styles on March 14.
Timing is key to the appearance. Rodrigo recently announced her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, set for release on June 12 via Geffen Records. The project’s lead single, “Drop Dead,” arrives April 17, just over two weeks before her SNL episode. That schedule suggests the May 2 broadcast will act as a major launchpad for the new era, potentially featuring the track’s first televised performance.
Momentum around Rodrigo’s catalog remains strong. Her 2021 debut SOUR and 2023 follow-up GUTS both delivered multi-week chart runs and global streaming dominance. Each SNL appearance has historically coincided with key moments in her rollout strategy, including her debut performance of “drivers license” in 2021 and the GUTS-era return in 2023.
NBC also confirmed the remaining lineup for the season’s closing episodes. Matt Damon will host on May 9 for his third time, joined by Noah Kahan as musical guest. Kahan’s fourth album, The Great Divide, is scheduled for April 24, while Damon is set to appear in The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, arriving in theaters July 17.
The season finale on May 16 will feature Will Ferrell hosting for the sixth time, with Paul McCartney returning as musical guest ahead of his upcoming album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, due May 29.
