ROLE MODEL is giving fans an early taste of his album before Chuck Timely & the Hourglass arrives this Friday, August 7. The singer-songwriter stopped by Spotify Music Studios in Los Angeles for an intimate Live Room session, where he performed the first-ever live version of his new song “Joy.”
Recorded inside Spotify’s Studio A, the exclusive session also features a performance of “High Hopes 3000,” the album’s lead single. Fans can now watch both performances on YouTube, marking the first opportunity to hear “Joy” performed live since its release on July 10.
The Live Room rendition captures the upbeat spirit of the song while showcasing ROLE MODEL’s relaxed stage presence in a stripped-back setting. Unlike traditional concert performances, Spotify’s Live Room series focuses on close, studio-recorded sessions that highlight an artist’s vocals and musicianship. This version of “Joy” is exclusive to the series, making it a must-watch for fans counting down to the album’s release.
Spotify’s Live Room series has become a popular platform for exclusive performances, previously welcoming artists including Sienna Spiro, Zara Larsson, Kehlani, Olivia Dean, Wolf Alice, and Barry Can’t Swim.
The performances arrive just two days before the release of Chuck Timely & the Hourglass, ROLE MODEL’s third studio album, due August 7 via Interscope Records. The project has steadily built anticipation since its announcement on May 28, with “High Hopes 3000” arriving on June 3 before becoming his first Billboard Hot 100 entry, debuting and peaking at No. 95. Follow-up single “Joy” continued the rollout on July 10.
ROLE MODEL has revealed that work on the record began in early 2025, with the title inspired by an alias he once considered using. The album also features a spoken-word appearance from actress Dakota Johnson on the track “Love I You,” reflecting themes of loneliness, relationships, and personal growth.
The new era will quickly transition from the studio to the stage. Earlier this summer, ROLE MODEL announced the Chuck on Tour, supported by Samia and Keni Titus, before surprising fans with a Lollapalooza aftershow under the name Chuck Timely. The tour officially begins on August 7 with a hometown performance at Thompson’s Point in Maine, coinciding with the album’s release.
