Rosalía’s long-awaited fourth studio album, LUX, is finally arriving tonight, November 7, through Columbia Records. Following the groundbreaking success of MOTOMAMI (2022), this new project represents the Spanish star’s boldest artistic leap yet — a sweeping exploration of spirituality, womanhood, and transformation told through an intricate blend of classical orchestration and experimental pop. Recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Daníel Bjarnason, LUX sees the Grammy-winning singer pushing far beyond her boundaries. As we’re just a few hours away from its release, here’s everything you need to know about LUX.

A Monumental Artistic Vision

Described as a “sonic odyssey of feminine mystique and transcendence,” LUX unfolds across four movements and eighteen tracks — fifteen available digitally, and three (“Focu ‘ranni,” “Jeanne,” and “Novia Robot”) exclusive to physical editions. The album’s creation spanned nearly three years and drew on a vast palette of cultural influences, languages, and religious imagery. Rosalía, who served as executive producer, collaborated with composer Caroline Shaw and avant-garde artists like Björk, Yves Tumor, Carminho, and Estrella Morente, bridging ancient sounds with contemporary experimentation.

Beyond its sonic ambition, LUX is remarkable for its multilingual scope. The record features lyrics in fourteen languages, including Catalan, Spanish, Latin, Japanese, Arabic, Sicilian, and Hebrew. Each language corresponds to the story of a different female saint — an artistic choice reflecting Rosalía’s deep fascination with spirituality and cultural connection. As she told The New York Times, “I wanted to sing in other languages to understand other cultures better — to study more, to grow as a person and as a musician.”

Themes of Light, Faith, and the Feminine Divine

The title LUX — Latin for “light” — symbolizes illumination, both spiritual and creative. The album juxtaposes divine imagery with visceral human emotion, exploring love, heartbreak, faith, and rebirth. Rosalía, who describes her faith as deeply personal but not bound to any single religion, presents LUX as a dialogue between the sacred and the sensual. In interviews, she’s said the record is “a gift to God” and a meditation on gratitude, adding that “sometimes you have to enter darkness to find the light.”

Recording and Creative Process

Rosalía began conceptualizing LUX shortly after wrapping her MOTOMAMI World Tour. The album’s early ideas took shape in Miami, Los Angeles, and London, with extensive research into linguistic phrasing and vocal delivery. She worked closely with translators, phonetics experts, and fellow artists like Charlotte Gainsbourg and Justice, who contributed to the French-language tracks. Underscoring her commitment to authenticity, Rosalía clarified that no artificial intelligence was used in the creative process.
