Rosé of BLACKPINK is riding high on the global success of her song “Messy.” Released on May 8 as a single from the F1: The Movie soundtrack, the track marked her first solo release since the launch of her debut album Rosie. The song earned global recognition, charting in Australia, the UK, and peaking at No. 34 on the Billboard Global 200 chart. However, Rosé recently admitted she almost said no to the project that brought it to life.
In a new interview with Vogue, the K-pop star opened up about her hesitation when asked to contribute to the F1: The Movie soundtrack. “It seemed like such a big project,” Rosé said. “So, I asked the production team, ‘There must be other good candidates besides me, right?’ and they said, ‘No, we definitely want Rosé to do it.’”

Rosé also reflected on the process of writing a song tied to a film’s emotional arc—something new for the BLACKPINK vocalist. “Fortunately, they all liked the song I made,” she said. “And I’m glad my voice helped the emotional line of the movie. I realized that making music to match a movie is also a really fun task.”
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Brad Pitt, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Lewis Hamilton, F1 premiered on June 27, 2025. Starring Pitt as former racing champion Sonny Hayes and Damson Idris as rookie Joshua Pearce, the film blends real Grand Prix footage, authentic driving sequences (captured in modified F2 cars), and IMAX visuals.
Released the same day as the film via Atlantic Records, F1: The Album features 17 original tracks from a diverse roster including Don Toliver & Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Rosé, Tate McRae, Tiësto, Roddy Ricch, Chris Stapleton, Peggy Gou, Burna Boy, Myke Towers, Madison Beer, RAYE, PAWSA, Mr Eazi, Darkoo, and Obongjayar.
