The FIFA World Cup has once again proven to be a major catalyst for Shakira’s music. As the 2026 tournament unfolds, both her newest anthem and her classic World Cup hits are experiencing significant streaming growth on Spotify, reinforcing a connection between the Colombian superstar and football’s biggest stage that has lasted for more than 15 years.

The biggest winner is “Dai Dai,” Shakira’s official 2026 FIFA World Cup song with Burna Boy. On the Spotify Daily Global chart dated June 30, the single climbed to No. 1, becoming Shakira’s third career chart-topper on the platform after “TQG” (2023) and “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” (2023). The achievement comes just weeks after the pair opened the tournament with a live performance during the June 11 opening ceremony.

Spotify’s latest data shows that the World Cup is driving listeners far beyond Shakira’s newest release. Immediately following the opening ceremony, global streams of “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” jumped nearly 250%, while the 2010 anthem has maintained an average streaming increase of almost 140% throughout the tournament. “La La La,” released for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, is also up 125% compared with its pre-tournament average, while “Hips Don’t Lie” has gained 60%.

Perhaps the strongest indicator of Shakira’s enduring cultural presence is the scale of playlist activity. According to Spotify, more than 35 million user-generated playlists now include at least one of her four World Cup-related songs.

The streaming surge is also introducing Shakira to younger audiences. Spotify reports that one in seven listeners who played “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” during the current World Cup were discovering her music for the first time.

“Dai Dai” appears to be following the same trajectory. Released on May 15 as the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the collaboration blends Afrobeats and Latin pop while referencing football icons including Pelé, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah. The single is also climbing the Billboard Hot 100, where it currently sits at No. 74, while remaining part of Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour setlist during its North American leg.
