Sophia James has released her new EP, Sleepwalking at 65 MPH, capping off a breakout year that has taken the singer-songwriter from viral online success to national television appearances and headline performances. Arriving November 6, the six-track project also comes with a music video for “Gun in the Garden,” one of its most politically charged songs.
Produced by Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum producer Alex Bilowitz, Sleepwalking at 65 MPH brings together James’ sharp songwriting and a sound that moves between pop, folk, jazz and rock. Rather than presenting a polished account of personal growth, the pop sensation describes the EP as an honest collection of experiences shaped by uncertainty, mistakes, relationships and the turbulence of her mid-20s.

“Trying to make sense of the world during my mid 20s has felt like sprinting on foot down the highway with no control,” Sophia James explained. “Sleepwalking at 65 MPH is the travelogue of the experience.” She added that the songs reflect how she has “guessed” her way through decisions, fallen in and out of love, hurt others and changed along the way. The project, she says, has no grand thesis and represents how far she feels from having everything figured out.
The release is led by “Gun in the Garden,” accompanied by a video directed by Hailey Brown and produced by Pool Girl Studios. Combining outdoor performance footage of James and her band with CCTV-style surveillance imagery, the visual reinforces the song’s themes of paranoia and the feeling of being constantly watched. Its lyrics address gun violence, surveillance technology and the political climate in the United States, subjects the singer approaches with a mixture of biting wit and vulnerability.
“‘Gun in the Garden’ is a sort of mosaic of my anxieties about living in the U.S. right now,” James said, pointing to the threat of gun violence, surveillance cameras and what she describes as the country’s “slow descent into fascism.” The six-song tracklist also includes “AAAAAHHH,” alongside previously released tracks “Ryan,” “Finish What You Started” and “Never Write a Love Song Again.”
Sleepwalking at 65 MPH follows Sophia James’ earlier EP The Wrong Shoe Theory and a series of singles released throughout 2026. Her rise accelerated with the viral success of “So Unfair,” which helped create the global “Group 7” community on TikTok and introduced her music to millions of new listeners.
