Sophie Powers is taking a fearless leap forward. On September 26, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter released her provocative new single “muddy,” a track that fuses glamour and grime with pulsing electronic grit. The release is accompanied by a futuristic music video that pushes her vision even further.
Leaving behind the bubblegum-neon style of her early career, “muddy” presents a raw, daring version of Sophie Powers. Both lyrically and visually, it’s her boldest release yet. “It took me five years to write this song. ‘muddy’ is my most provocative song lyrically and visually that I’ve ever put out,” she explained. “I started releasing music in 2021, and only now, in 2025, am I comfortable getting ugly, disgusting even, for the sake of my art.”

The single leans into messy desire with lines like, “I want your oxygen all over my body, sweat could drop, I wanna get muddy, glamorous, but we could get ugly.” But for Sophie, it’s not about selling sex—it’s about selling attitude. “I’m 21 now, which means getting older and hotter. The funny thing is, I’m still not selling sex. I’m selling an attitude with my words,” she reflects.
This bold move came with a little push. She credits Bonnie McKee for encouraging her to embrace womanhood and sexuality, while citing icons like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Hayley Williams, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, and The Prodigy as inspirations. “They reminded me there are no rules,” Sophie added.
Already one of pop’s fast-rising artists, Sophie Powers has earned over 80 million streams and collaborated with artists including Grimes, Dillon Francis, Baby Tate, and kets4eki. She has taken her high-energy shows on tour with YUNGBLUD, Peaches, and Waterparks, and recently made waves in K-pop with ILLIT’s hypnotic version of her single “jellyous.”
More music is on the way. Sophie Powers is currently finishing her third EP, due in 2026, with another single set for release on October 22. Until then, fans can stream “muddy” on all platforms.
