Taylor Swift has set another remarkable milestone in her already iconic career as The Life of a Showgirl earns a rare 5x Platinum certification from the RIAA. The achievement marks 5 million units sold in the United States, solidifying the album as one of the most commercially dominant releases of the decade. Swift’s pace is historic: Showgirl has become the fastest album of the 2020s to reach 5x Platinum, accomplishing the feat in less than two months and surpassing the record previously held by her own The Tortured Poets Department by a five-month margin.
The certification also elevates Swift to a new level of industry recognition. With this latest milestone, she officially breaks Garth Brooks’ long-standing record for the most albums certified 5x Platinum or higher in RIAA history. Swift now holds 12 such albums.
Released on October 3, The Life of a Showgirl continues to demonstrate exceptional staying power on the charts. The album has spent every week since release at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming one of only two albums in 2025 to debut with at least seven consecutive weeks at the summit. It joins The Tortured Poets Department as the only titles in Swift’s catalog to achieve this rare start.
The album’s success extends beyond certifications. In recent weeks, Showgirl shattered several industry benchmarks, including becoming the fastest album in history to surpass 3 million U.S. units, reaching the milestone in just one day. It also became the fastest-selling vinyl release of the 21st century, moving over 1 million vinyl copies in under 24 hours. On the singles front, “The Fate of Ophelia” has maintained Swift’s striking momentum on the Billboard Hot 100.
