Taylor Swift continues to make music history. Her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, has officially surpassed 3 million sales in the United States, according to Billboard and data tracking firm Luminate.

On its first day of release (Oct. 3), The Life of a Showgirl sold an astounding 2.7 million copies, combining physical and digital purchases across all editions. Within days, that total climbed past 3 million sold, making it the second-largest single-week sales figure since Luminate began electronically tracking data in 1991. The only album to outperform it remains Adele’s 25, which debuted with 3.378 million copies sold in its first week back in 2015.

In total, The Life of a Showgirl has now earned over 3.2 million equivalent album units in the U.S. — a metric that includes traditional album sales, digital downloads, and streaming performance. With those numbers, The Life of a Showgirl now holds the second-largest debut week by equivalent album units in Billboard 200 history, trailing only Adele’s 25, which moved 3.482 million units in 2015.

This achievement builds on what was already a historic opening weekend for Swift. The Life of a Showgirl sold 1.2 million vinyl copies in just 24 hours, breaking Swift’s own record from The Tortured Poets Department, which previously held the title for the biggest vinyl sales week with 859,000 copies in 2024.

The album also dominated streaming platforms upon release. It earned 259 million first-day streams on Spotify, making it the most-streamed album of 2025 so far and the second-biggest debut ever on the platform, once again behind Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department.

Its lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” debuted at No. 1 globally on Spotify with 30.9 million streams in its first 24 hours — setting a new all-time record for the biggest single-day streaming total for a song.

In a recent interview, Swift expressed her excitement about expanding the Showgirl era: “We just started this era,” she said. “I love this theme of this album — it’s so fun to play with. I want to make more music videos. I actually have time to do stuff like that.”
