Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, is already shaping up to be one of the biggest releases in music history.
According to figures reported by Billboard, the pop superstar’s twelfth studio album sold an astonishing 2.7 million copies in the United States on its first day (Oct. 3), based on early data from tracking firm Luminate. That number includes both physical and digital sales across all editions of the record.
This opening marks the biggest single-day sales week of Taylor Swift’s career and the second-largest sales week for any album since Luminate began electronic tracking in 1991. The only album to ever surpass it remains Adele’s 25, which sold 3.38 million copies during its first week in 2015.
While the first-week Billboard 200 chart will not be finalized until next weekend, The Life of a Showgirl will easily debut at No. 1, continuing Swift’s unmatched streak of record-setting achievements.

Beyond its staggering sales total, The Life of a Showgirl has already set a new modern-era record for vinyl sales, moving 1.2 million copies on vinyl in just one day. That figure surpasses Swift’s own previous record, set in 2024 when The Tortured Poets Department sold 859,000 vinyl copies in its debut week. This makes The Life of a Showgirl the fastest-selling vinyl album since 1991.
The record’s physical triumph follows its explosive digital performance. On Spotify, The Life of a Showgirl became the most-streamed album of 2025 in a single day and the second-biggest debut in the platform’s history, trailing only Swift’s own The Tortured Poets Department.
Its lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” debuted at No. 1 globally with 30.9 million first-day streams, breaking the all-time record for the biggest streaming day ever for a single track. The album also held the top 12 spots on Spotify’s Daily Global Chart, a rare and remarkable accomplishment.
