The Weeknd has fans convinced another major announcement is on the horizon. During a recent stop on his record-breaking After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour, the superstar paused to tell the crowd, “We are getting closer to…”, trailing off before leaving the sentence unfinished and igniting immediate speculation about new music.
The cryptic remark quickly spread across social media, with fans questioning whether Abel Tesfaye was teasing a new album, or another surprise project.
The timing has only intensified the conversation. Just days ago, The Weeknd addressed months of retirement rumors by assuring fans that he has no intention of stepping away from music. “I’ll never disappear. I love this too much to ever disappear,” he told the audience during another recent concert. “I tested retirement a little bit, and I don’t like the way it feels. Imma be here forever with you.”
Those comments marked a dramatic shift after more than two years of suggesting that the Weeknd persona could eventually come to an end. Ahead of the release of Hurry Up Tomorrow on January 31, 2025, Tesfaye repeatedly described the album as the closing chapter of the acclaimed After Hours trilogy and spoke openly about retiring the character in favor of releasing music under his real name.
Instead, the latest tour has painted a different picture. The After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour, which began in 2022, has surpassed $1 billion in ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing tour by a male solo artist. As the production continues its European leg before heading to Asia later this year, Tesfaye has appeared increasingly energized on stage, regularly interacting with audiences and hinting that his creative journey is far from over.
Commercially, Hurry Up Tomorrow represented another career-defining achievement. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 490,500 equivalent album units, delivering the biggest opening week of his career while completing one of contemporary pop’s most ambitious album trilogies. The accompanying film further expanded its narrative, leading many listeners to believe the story had reached its conclusion.
