Seungmin has built a reputation within Stray Kids as one of the group’s distinctive vocalists, but there is much more to his story than his work on stage. From his unexpected beginnings as a baseball player to becoming a JYP Entertainment trainee, Seungmin’s path to K-pop was shaped by a series of opportunities that eventually led him to one of the biggest boy groups in the world.
Before debuting, Seungmin earned his place at JYP Entertainment by finishing second in the company’s 13th Open Audition in 2017. He subsequently appeared on the survival show Stray Kids, where he was confirmed as part of the lineup that would debut the following year. On March 25, 2018, he officially debuted with Stray Kids alongside Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, and I.N.
Since then, Seungmin has expanded his career beyond group activities. He has hosted programs including After School Club and We K-Pop, appeared on vocal-focused programs such as LeeMujin Service and King of Masked Singer, and developed his own musical identity through Stray Kids’ SKZ-Record/Player project. His solo songs, including “Stars and Raindrops” and “As We Are,” have given fans a closer look at his songwriting and vocal style.
Seungmin has also become closely associated with OSTs and special musical releases. His credits include soundtracks for dramas such as Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Love in Contract, The Midnight Studio, and The Potato Lab, while his collaborations with fellow Stray Kids members have produced several memorable SKZ-Record tracks. His connection to baseball has also remained part of his story, including his appearance as the first pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2024 MLB World Tour Seoul Series.
