Future has never relied heavily on obvious samples, but The Real Me quietly weaves together influences from classic country, progressive rock, horror cinema, spoken word, and contemporary electronic music. Released on July 10 through Freebandz and Epic Records, the rapper’s 10th studio album uses carefully selected source material to reinforce the introspective atmosphere that defines his first solo project in four years.

Unlike many rap albums built around recognizable nostalgia, The Real Me employs its samples sparingly. Each one serves a specific purpose, helping shape the mood of individual tracks rather than acting as the central hook. The result is one of Future’s most cinematic projects, pairing his signature melodic delivery with references that span nearly five decades of music and film.

One of the album’s most unexpected moments arrives on “Konnichiwa,” which samples “Magellan” by progressive rock band Alpha Ralpha. A different direction appears on “Weight Up,” where producers flip Glen Campbell’s 1976 recording “The Bottom Line.”

Perhaps the album’s most personal sample comes on “No Misery.” Rather than lifting another song, Future incorporates audio of André 3000 discussing him and the evolution of trap music from the 2019 documentary surrounding The Wizrd.

These selections mirror the broader identity of The Real Me. Arriving without any guest features, the album places Future entirely at the center. The album was produced by a start-studded lineup of collaborators, including Pharrell Williams, Southside, Wheezy, ATL Jacob, TM88, Allen Ritter and Sean Momberger.
