Sweet Action II arrives less than eight months after Jack Harlow released his fourth studio album, Monica, on March 13. The record coincided with his 28th birthday and marked his first full-length release since Jackman, which arrived in April 2023.

Featuring production from frequent collaborators including BabeTruth, Hollywood Cole, Clay Harlow, Aksel Arvid and Rogét Chahayed, Monica also included a collaboration with James Savage. The album debuted at No. 40 on the Billboard 200 and reached the top 25 in Australia.

Before Monica, Harlow released Jackman as a semi-surprise project on April 28, 2023. The seven-track album arrived through Generation Now and Atlantic Records, with the rapper taking a hands-on role in its production alongside contributors such as FnZ, DJ Dahi and Boi-1da.

Although Jackman adopted a more stripped-back approach than some of Harlow’s earlier releases, it secured a No. 1 peak on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart and earned a nomination for Hip Hop Album of the Year at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards.

The title Sweet Action II also points back to an earlier chapter of Harlow’s career. His Sweet Action EP was released in March 2020, featuring six tracks including “WHATS POPPIN,” the breakout single that helped establish him as a major name in mainstream rap.
