The residency takes its name from LL Cool J’s classic track “Rock the Bells,” originally released in 1985 as a single from his debut album, Radio. Written by LL Cool J and produced by Rick Rubin, the song became one of the defining records of his early career and helped establish the rapper as a leading voice in hip-hop’s emerging mainstream era.

Despite its title, the album version of “Rock the Bells” famously contains no bells. An extended version, featuring various bells and percussion elements, was released on 12-inch vinyl and runs for more than seven minutes, contrasting with the four-minute album recording. The song also reached No. 17 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, further cementing its place in LL Cool J’s early catalog.

The title’s influence eventually extended beyond the original record. In 2004, Rock the Bells became the name of a hip-hop festival series built around established acts, classic records and the genre’s evolution across generations. The brand has since become closely associated with preserving hip-hop history while creating opportunities for influential artists to perform for audiences old and new.

That legacy makes the Las Vegas residency a natural extension of LL Cool J’s longstanding role in the genre. Rather than simply revisiting a catalog of hits, the announced concept emphasizes an all-star format, with special guests and immersive storytelling intended to place the music within a broader cultural context. Specific guest performers have not yet been announced.

LL Cool J debuted with Radio in 1985, releasing a record that helped define the sound and image of early Def Jam hip-hop. His career subsequently expanded across music, film and television, while songs such as “Mama Said Knock You Out” became enduring staples of his catalog. He also continued to build on the “Rock the Bells” name through Rock the Bells Radio on SiriusXM, extending the brand’s connection to classic hip-hop and its audience.
