The four-year wait to hear Dua Lipa‘s new album has definitely been worth it, as the pop sensation did not disappoint. “Radical Optimism” is an album in which Dua explores new soundscapes. “End of an Era” and “Maria” are the biggest examples in this regard, alongside a record touched by her signature dance-pop sound, with “Training Season” and “Illusion” standing out among other tracks. It’s very hard to say if it will replicate the massive success of her previous LPs, “Dua Lipa” and “Future Nostalgia,” and it wouldn’t be fair to compare them. First of all, “Radical Optimism” is her shorter project, resulting in a more cohesive record in terms of the quality of each song. Dua has mentioned that she feels she’s a more mature artist, putting more attention into the lyrical content, reaching a point in her career never seen before. This is probably the best definition of “Radical Optimism.” Lyrically, the last track, “Happy For You,” is the most heartfelt on the album, with Dua singing about a past relationship and reflecting on the emotions experienced after the breakup. She sees her ex moving on, “Baby, together you look hot as hell,” while she still thinks about the time spent together. The song is definitely the perfect conclusion for the album. Dua revealed that “Radical Optimism” is a record in which she aims to “capture the essence of youth and freedom,” heavily inspired by the 1970s psychedelic era. Overall, the album has a total length of less than 40 minutes, making it a definitely worth-listen LP, even more than once!
